Microfilm
Microfilming is the traditional method of document archival. It is a tried and tested method of miniaturising documents and drawings. Documents are microfilmed on planetary or rotary cameras to a roll of film which can contain between approximately 3,000 images. This method is ideal for documents filed in chronological order. When documents are microfilmed to a roll of film, a small blip is placed under, and the frame number above each image. The documents' indexing details and the film and frame reference are then captured in a computer database. Linking this database to a frame search reader printer, the film can be driven to the exact location and a paper copy produced in a few seconds.

Microfiche

Microfiche/ Jackets are plastic sleeves about the size of a photograph, which hold up to seventy exposures, or images. This method of storage is ideal for low volume users or applications where images need to be added at a later date - such as personnel files.

Many companies hold large archives of information on microfiche/Jackets, and often find it cumbersome and problematic to locate and view the documents. E.T. Microfilm can scan the microfiche to create a digital library with all of the advantages of storing document electronically. The scanned images can then be indexed, and treated in the same way as scanned paper, with retrieval software on the CD, or just as raw images to be used in another document management system.

Standard A4 office documentation is usually stored on 16mm roll film, either in cartridges, jackets, or microfiche. E T Microfilm utilise high quality equipment to handle each different type of microfilm to ensure that the images are always of the the highest quality achievable.

Many companies have generated large microfilm archives over time and in many cases it would be impractical to digitise the entire archive. In these instances E T Microfilm would suggest their storage solutions to save the need for maintaining a microfilm reader/printer in-house.
